Just bought a Gio eBike got it home and assembled but can’t seem to find where to plug in the charger on the bike. Can you help me out please?
Paul – Below the seat, about halfway down, facing the steering column is a small (mine’s grey) covered plug. If you lift the little cover, and you can plug the charger in there. Alternatively, if you remove the floor mat, and use your key to unlock the battery, you can pull the entire battery out of the bike. Unplug the part that connects the battery to the bike, and the charger can go in there. I hope this helps. Good luck. Write me back if you have any further questions or concerns. Come back to the blog regularly to compare your experiences as a new rider with mine! Happy riding.
I have been riding around Brampton for about a week now and i love this bike. it is much faster then waiting for the bus and other people on the road (in cars) are pretty good with me on the road, i always stay off to the side unless making left hand turns, i made it from down town Brampton to Dixie and Dundas Mississauga and back on just over half a battery i am impressed by the life of the battery
Mike – thanks for reading. I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying your GIO as much as I am. It’s been saving me mad cash in transit fare! The batter life has been great for me too … I can usually get about 45 km out of it … give or take. I must say that I have run out of juice once. Though I only had to push the GIO scooter about a block, I discovered how heavy it is!
Hello!
I just got an e-bike like yours. I did many research before and one of the sites i`ve been reading was yours. Now I was wondering if i can meet people who have e-bikes around the city. I moved to Canada last year and I am quite new in the city. My husband and I are very happy with the e-bike but because I am the one who used it everyday I want to be more confident at the traffic and so it will be wonderful to go for rides with other people who have the e-bike too and then I could follow and learn more about what I can do and how to act with my e-bike between the cars and pedestrians.
hope i get feedback from you.
thank`s
LUCIANA
Hi Luciana. I’m thrilled to see that reading my blog helped you decide to buy your very own GIO scooter!
You might have some luck connecting with other GIO scooter riders on a user-run discussion forum site: http://gioebike.phpbb3now.com/index.php?sid=17200950441242a74192ad4aa27cf1fb
Alternatively, you might want to try the site http://ebikeriders.com – which is a meet-up site. I’m not sure if they have regular “en masse” rides, but it might be worth checking out. I hope this helps!
Enjoy your GIO!
hi i wanna no how too speed it up ive heard its possible
Hi Scott. Interesting question. I’ve heard that it’s possible to add power to the bike. I’ve also heard that it’s not legal.
Another modification that I’ve read about gives the bike more torque when starting and going up hills, but doesn’t add any speed. I’m still not sure about the legality of this either.
My advice: leave the bike as is. It performs extremely well, and has good power, speed and reliability. I personally don’t think it’s worth the risk!
If you’re determined to ignore my advice and modify the scooter, I would suggest taking a look at the GIO Bikes user forums. They have some “recipes” for mods. That would be the place to look.
Good luck. Be safe.
l i would like to know about your bike. what was your final bill cost after shipping?
i also live in the toronto area
Shipping to Toronto is in the ballpark of $200, plus the $50 auction fee. The cheapest I’ve seen the scooters go for is around $260. Even at $500, these are the best value for scooters that I’ve seen! In the last three months that I’ve had the scooter, I’ve saved $500, easily. Also, most people that I know have bicycles that are worth two and three times that! I hope that helps.
Check out my blog post: How to buy a GIO electric scooter for a little bit more information, and visit the GIO site to bid. Watch the auctions, and try to get a bike for less than $300. Trust me: It’s worth it.
Hey buddy, my total after tax shipping freight etc came to $640 CAD. It will be delivered to my front door / garage and they will unload it off the truck and put in my garage…
Jamz – thanks for posting and sharing your experience! $620 is still a good deal, and I’m sure you’ll find that you’ll get good value out of that money!
When they come to deliver the bike, they’ll unload it from the truck and put it wherever you want. The assembly is up to you though! Good luck. Happy scooting.
Hey Zach,
Sorry to bother you again but I got my bike and its awsome but im starting to hear a little sqweeking soun that comes and goes. I am just wondering about maintainance. Do you know what kind of oil or lub I should be using in that yellow/bright green thing near the rear wheel on the left side? Also how much do I put? I was about to spray my bike with WD40 but hear that it will dilute the original lubricant and because wd40 is so viscous that it would just wear away very fast. Let me know what type of maintainance or oil you use or what type of lubricant I should be using.
Thank you so much. You site did make my purchase decision more confident.
LOL haha i left the plastic on my bike so that it looks brand spankin new:P
Make a video oh E-bike maintainance.:P if you want / can.
Hi Jamz. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Hmm .. I would suggest taking it to one of the retalilers that actually sells the GIO bikes. They may have a better sense of maintenence. I know it’s not the most helpful answer on my part, but when it comes to the technical side of thins, I must confess my inexperience!
Best, Zack.
Can’t get on top of a small hill whith my gio bike.
Somebody tell me, it depand of my controler.
Somebody can help me?
Thank you
René
The GIOs aren’t generally great on hills. Check the GIO e-bike user forum for solutions to add a little more torque. Alternatively, you can use the pedals to help you up the hills and get the push you need! Hope this helps.
hi gio in t.o. im from windsor ontario canada and got a a quick question im getting the same color as u and the guy who sells them in windsor said if i use the bike every night to charge it even if the battery isnt low and he said it will keep the battery life long .. is he right do i got to charge it every ride even if the batterys in green cause wouldnt it kill the battery life wouldnt it be like chargeing rechargable batterys for a mp3 player and sooner or later would not charge no more im confused please help me
do you have to register these bikes and do they have serial numbers? also do the all have individual keys or are they universal?
I just purchased a giobike and the kick stand is so tight I can barely get the bike into a parked position by myself, any suggestions?
Hi Zack,
I live in the far North of Ontario. I bought my Gio last July and absolutely love it. I drove it until the end of October when it was getting pretty cold here. Anyhow, this year in about mid August I have found that the bike doesn’t have the power it used to have–eg getting up hills and just getting accross our little town -where it was quite quick beofre this time. It tells me that my battery is fully charged and I find no other problems with it so far. Just wondering if you could help me out or give me a number or address as the business is no longer selling them here and I know of no one else selling the Gio.
